Programme of the Logistics Congress 2025
How Do We Identify the Most Relevant Trends For Us and Respond to Them Effectively?
The pervasive influence of global, technological, and digital trends, along with the escalating complexity of products, is significantly impacting our daily lives. While extensive discussions center around these phenomena, it is noteworthy that the region has never before witnessed such substantial investments in logistics development, encompassing both infrastructure and technological modernization. It is imperative to know the industry trends and remain informed about the activities of other enterprises. However, the critical task lies in identifying which trends have the potential to impact our operations and appropriately adapting our strategies in response.
During the 12th International Logistics Congress, themed “Supply Chains in Science and Practice,” we will showcase best practices of effective logistics collaboration, yard management, and sustainability in logistics (ESG). The implementation of ESG standards is currently impacting our operations and is projected to exert even greater influence on our economy in the future. In acknowledgment of this significance, a dedicated plenary session will delve into this topic. Trump 2.0: The Future of Green Supply Chains in the US, EU, and Beyond
- 🇺🇸 dr. Nick Vyas, Founding Executive/Academic Director
- Randall R. Kendrick Global Supply Chain Institute at University of Southern California (USC)
The landscape for sustainability in the U.S., particularly in the area of environmental, social, and governance is undergoing significant changes. The new administration may pose considerable challenges for organizations addressing environmental and social issues. On the environmental front, there is likely to be increased support for fossil fuels, high tariffs on imports for clean tech, cuts to climate impact reporting, and slashed budgets for weather tracking.
The United States risks losing its leadership in the advocacy to fight climate change by withdrawing from the Paris Climate Agreement. These shifts in the policies, including reduced foreign aid and weakened diversity efforts are challenging the country’s role in addressing environmental and social issues, as well as raising concerns about prioritizing sustainability over short-term interests.
Can U.S. companies still lead the change toward a golden age of sustainability, advancing this crucial agenda? There are moments of uncertainty, mainly as more businesses go quiet on ESG initiatives. Yet, it’s more important than ever to continue this conversation. The real question is whether business leaders have the vision and courage to prioritise the long-term well-being of their people, their companies, and the planet.

We will present the integration of e.trans365 TMS and Yard management with the main SAP system, through which all data is automatically transferred from SAP to e-trans365 (internal orders), and all transports are virtually planned in advance. In the meantime, carriers are sought in two ways of confirming the transport order (exchange and fixed according to contractual price lists), and in the second step, carriers are enabled to make Bookings, through which vehicle arrival times are reserved at the yard. Communication in this part of the process is digitalized via web interfaces, upon arrival the driver logs in on the driver portal, and at the same time the gatekeeper has an overview of the entire yard. After the vehicle leaves the yard, the driver takes a photo of the delivered goods upon completion of the transport (unloading) and carries out the final collection at the customer’s construction site.

Compared to the large enterprises, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SME) contribute more than 55% of GDP in the World economies, producing greater variety, lower volume and satisfying greater personalized demand than large enterprises. Therefore, the production systems of the SMEs require advanced IT support in order to be efficiently organized and managed.
In order for simulation to enable real time operational management of a production system, based on proactive and predictive decision making, a simulation model has to be upgraded to a Digital Twin (DT). Upgrading a simulation model toward a DT requires support of an advanced IT system that would enable the real time data feeding of the simulation model in order to replicate functioning of the real system in the real time, such as the Manufacturing Execution System (MES). This approach has been applied in a company that produces pharmaceutical packaging by injection and blow molding. In order to optimize their production system, a simulation model in the software Tecnomatix Plant Simulation was developed and integrated with the DigiPro MES system.

Do We Know the Real Picture? Comparing Actual Emissions with Global Logistics Emission Council (GLEC) Default Values
- doc. dr. Blaž Luin
- University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Maritime Studies and Transport
New worldwide requirements for reporting cargo emissions are being introduced under the Corporate Reporting Sustainability Directive (CRSD). This paper explores approaches for estimating freight transport emissions, considering both vehicle emissions and the allocation of emissions to individual consignees based on cargo characteristics and route attributes. A key aspect of freight emissions is ensuring a transparent and equitable distribution among clients after measuring vehicle emissions. The methodology must be robust and functional even when input data is imperfect. The state-of-the-art approach currently follows the ISO 14083 standard and to use approach specified by the Global Logistics Emission Council (GLEC) framework. However, methods are sensitive to input data about every transport chain element in the process. To address this limitation, we present approaches for estimating emissions using measured vehicle data and evaluate alternative methods by integrating routing tools and traffic sensor data. This allows for the estimation of emissions from internal combustion engine and electric vehicles using the vehicle-specific power model. Additionally, we conduct a sensitivity analysis to estimate an impact of degraded quality of input data such as vehicle trajectories with positioning errors on final results to assess the impact of unreliable trip data on individual packages. The findings can help organizations enhance data quality, improve emissions reporting, and optimize operations to reduce carbon emissions.
